Sheila Markham has a background in community nursing, having been a District Nursing Sister and a Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist for many years. She has also been involved in inter-professional education for health and social care students. Sheila has worked with the highly diverse populations in Leicester for the last 10- plus years, latterly leading a hospice-based project  "Broadening Horizons'. The project trains volunteers to raise awareness of services and choices available to members of their culturally diverse communities.
