Lingo Flipper - Nela Milic

The inspiration for the pillows comes from my dreams where two languages are mixed up - speaking in English to my mother or responding to my British friends in Serbo-Croat. As a Brit, born and bred in Serbia and Montenegro, flipping between two worlds the pillow too can be flipped.

The poem about my dual existence is printed on one side of the pillow in English and on the other in Serbo-Croat. The fact that those two languages are so different in form - Latinic and Cyrillic lettering conveys how apart my two personas are, and how they also connect at the edges and become one. As with the pillowcase - only stitched together with a thread running through both parts of the material, these sides make sense. Only when joined, they are a single item, they are the whole.
